Satan x Matilda

Satan was often distracted by his books, always of the idea that the more knowledge he held onto, the more powerful of a demon he was. He was an expert at controlling his wrath now, the hatred he held for his eldest brother having dissipated for the most part. Lucifer still got on his nerves constantly, and he prayed for the day that the demon would kneel at his feet; it might never happen, but the Avatar of Wrath could wish. Lately he was distracted by something else though. Ever since Lord Diavolo had announced an exchange program, welcoming a handful of angels and demons to RAD, his life was less peaceful than it had been before. He never minded a little havoc, but the group of humans brought on were of a different breed. They were more powerful than he had expected of humans and he really did enjoy learning about them and their history. Nathaniel was interesting, having a sword passed down throughout his family and having been training as a descendant of an Archangel from a war long ago. Kathryn was a conundrum most of the time, all sunshine and smile and curls, but he had a feeling she wasn’t completely truthful all the time. No one was that air-headed. She was chosen by the Prophet-King, so there had to be something beneath her goofy exterior. The one that interested him the most though was the pretty brunette. Pretty? Anyway. Matilda was absolutely fascinating. He could talk to the girl for hours, sharing many interests in the finer arts. She was brilliant, too. Anyone studious and so bright was sure to get his attention, but he never guessed that she would be interested in sharing so many conversations with him as often as she did. He often found himself wanting to exchange new information that he would stumble across, yearning for more time to talk about everything with her after a while. He found himself standing in front of the bathroom mirror one early afternoon, having finished his classes. He needed to study and was planning on going to the archives to find more information for his History of the Devildom paper that he was supposed to be writing, but instead he was practicing for a conversation he had been apprehensive about all day. “Hello, Matilda,” He said to his reflection, making an awkward gesture with his hand before grimacing slightly. “Hey, Mattie- no, too informal. Hi, Matilda. Would you like to accompany me to the library to study? I can show you around the archives.” He smiled for a few seconds, but then the smile faltered and he groaned, tugging at his hair in frustration. Why was he like this?! Matilda was just a human! He shouldn’t have any problem inviting her to study! They liked to study! Why was he so nervous? Why was he nervous at all?? He was startled by a pounding on the bathroom door, Beel saying that he needed to brush his teeth so he could taste dinner better tonight. Satan blinked at his reflection again, watching himself as he white-knuckle gripped at the sink. Why was he getting angry over not being able to ask a simple question? Why was this human living rent-free in his mind right now? With a deep, shoulder heaving breath, he nodded to the demon in the mirror before leaving the bathroom, apologizing to Beel for taking so much time. He made his way to the library, the only place he could clear his mind most of the time, and took out his phone. He was a demon, after all, and a strong one at that! He could ask a girl to the library to study. He could. Tapping Matilda’s name in his DDD, he waited for the phone to connect, ring, and only a moment later, she was answering. “Matilda, would you like to come to the library with me? I’d like to show you around the archives. I think you’d enjoy them.”
